I have a lot of stuff to say about this particular topic. For starters, we are perpetuating a culture where women are taught to keep the dicks out of their pants instead of telling men to keep the dicks in theirs. IT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME! Women should not have to be taught how to avoid rape. Men should be taught not to go around raping women! The same goes for schools and the whole thing with WOMEN CAN”T SHOW THEIR SHOULDERS BECAUSE IT TURNS PEOPLE ON! Men can practically walk around shirtless but women have to dress like nuns because men aren’t taught to keep it in their pants.
I feel like you can hear me yelling through the screen. This just annoys the hell out of me. I had something happen to me in high school that ties into this and it kind of haunts me tbh.
Let me set the scene: I’m in history class, working at the computer in the library. I’m minding my own business and suddenly it goes dead silent. I look up and see the teacher walking over to me and I have no idea at this point what I’ve done.
She makes it over to me and starts to yell at me about my dress straps being too thin. I had measured before I left my bedroom to be sure it was okay and to my knowledge, and the according to the dress code, they were fine. I only got to say that I had shrugged my jacket off when I sat down because it was hot and we were in the library next to the door to the outside. She then proceeded to point me out to the WHOLE CLASS for dressing inappropriately. She not only did that, but stormed out of te room to the office to get me an Equality Club shirt to wear over my dress. (The Equality Club shirt was all they had in my size at the time) She STOPPED THE ENTIRE CLASS and made everyone aware of my apparent fuck up.
I never wore that outfit again because of her and I think that this is a perfect example of why this kind of culture is harmful. To be clear, I wore a TARDIS dress from HotTopic that had tank top sleeves but was NOT spaghetti strap they were like two inches thick. I had a blue jean jacket on top and a cute pair of black heeled boots. I had literally taken my jacket off for less than five minutes because I was a little hot and sweaty and she had to do all that.
I think that we need to start teaching men and young boys to not be rapists, instead of teaching women how to avoid being raped.
Next topic before I lose my ever-loving mind. I think that makeup should be respected and not ridiculed if you aren’t female. Everyone can do makeup and rock the shit out of it and we should be respectful of that. I also think that we should be more supportive of people who want to do it for a living. If you want to do SFX makeup you aren’t given any shit for it but god help me if you want to do beauty.
I love makeup because you get to become whoever the hell you want with the use of a brush and some eyeshadow. To me it doesn’t matter who you are, what you identify as, who you like, I DON’T CARE! I love all people, and to teach others to be the same way.
Our culture sucks in a lot of ways but it’s also really cool in a lot of ways. Like for example, Harry Styles wore a leotard and tutu in one of the promo photos for his SNL hosting debut and the whole world loved it. On the other hand, some other people can do it and receive the opposite reaction. BIPOLAR CULTURE PEOPLE, I’M TELLING YOU!
I think that about wraps this up. I rambled for a while and I think I said enough. I’m going to go ahead and head off before I go too crazy.
